whirlwind

Wow! Where did this last week go?!?

I just wanted to write a quick update to let those of you who are wondering know that I have NOT abandoned this blog. It has been a CRAZY week for me and something had to give. I even tweeted less than normal!

Rest assured knowing that I plan to return to my normal 2-3 posts per week within the next couple of days. Here’s a quick rundown of where we’ve been and what’s coming up:

Last Saturday one of my wife’s closest friends came in from California. Little did we know that she was bringing 3 other of my wife’s girlfriends along with her! They all surprised us that afternoon and we spent the next 24 hours showing them around our favorite places in Tallahassee and enjoying each others’ company. For those of you who are unaware, we are from the San Francisco Bay Area and have only been living in Florida for a little over a year, so we have many dear friends from California who we seldom get a chance to see. It was a great and wonderfully exhausting weekend.

Over the past week I have also been putting together a rush job WordPress website for a new client – one of those “I need a website yesterday” projects. I finished the entire site last night in less than a week’s time. But those were some long days!

Simultaneously I have been redesigning another client’s Joomla website with a complete restructuring of the site map and user experience. Due to the reformatting of typography and layout I am transferring all of the content by hand, rather than simply importing the database, so it is a long and tedious process for this content-rich site. The plan is to have it finshed and launched by the end of the coming weekend.

While working on these two projects (and some smaller items alongside), I have been receiving requests for proposals on an almost daily basis – a wonderful “problem” to have. The time it takes to assess a client’s needs and desires and then prepare corresponding written proposals is always worthwhile, but it can take a chunk out of the day.

On top of all of this, I have recently received a few requests to write for other blogs and websites. The most exciting of these has resulted in me accepting an offer to become a staff writer for Freelance Folder, one of my favorite blogs/websites for freelancers. I will begin writing for them this month with a couple articles in the works as we speak. I will also be writing guest posts for PV.M Garage, The Web Squeeze, and Mogdesign, hopefully within the month. I am excited about these opportunities and completely flattered by the requests. Now I just have to find a way to squeeze a few more hours out of my 27-hour days!

So as you see, the things I write about here will be impacted. Most freelance-related articles will go to Freelance Folder. Other ideas will show up as guest posts here and there. But you can be sure to still find me here promoting other designers, sharing my tips and experiences, and of course, unloading my opinions and thoughts about hot topics in the online world.

So please don’t wander away from this blog yet – I am still here enjoying your participation as a reader and commenter in this little corner of the interwebs. And if you have any ideas, suggestions, topics, questions or anything else you would like to discuss with me, please don’t ever hesitate to drop me an email or a comment. See you soon!

Brian this sounds like amazing times ahead for you! Good luck! You should consider a ghost writer, designer or tourguide next time. They can come in handy especially if they wear a mask with your mug on it =D. Congrats on the continued successes and I look forward to seeing those site lauches soon!

Cheers,

CONGRATULATIONS Brian!!!

I am reading your blog backwards and just got a little windy over on your post about the new Twitter lists! HA!

WOW! Rather ironic that you are NEW to Florida and from the San Francisco Bay Area! I was born and raised (Palo Alto)there and have been living in the foothills (near Angels Camp and Sonora) since early 1995 and looking to move a little further up the hill next year perhaps!

My best friend lives in Cocoa, Florida! I hope to get out that way to meet her one day! How exciting to have had a SURPRISE visit from SEVERAL of your wife’s friends! I am SURE she was loving every moment!

I am REALLY, REALLY excited for you and look forward to hearing about more of the MANY opportunities coming your way my friend! WOOT, WOOT!
